WHY THE SILENCE? The Cross River State Library
Because we are involved:- It beats my imagination that we walk, run and drive past this edifice called the state Library in the centre of Calabar our state capital , like nothing is really wrong, we move like hypocrites looking the other way, or expecting that we'll close our eyes and the library will get transformed by the time we open them. I was counting the university degrees of our chief executive and his deputy who is also a professor and a former vice chancellor of a university and could not but begin to argue in my head that it is probably not true that these men went to school , if they did ,do they still relate to their classmates?, if they do ,what do their classmates tell them ? I'm still trying to think that ,is it because the library is not on the same road as the governor's office, but it is still in the same environment? Less than a kilometer radius or could it be wickedness, wickedness against who? In this era of ICT , one expected an electronic upgrade of our state library , or could it be that someone is planning to buy it over as a dilapidated structure? We have seen this happen elsewhere and it is worrisome, for we continue to ponder on the reasons for the neglect without answers or have they sold the premises?. Why are the other governorship candidates not saying anything, why is the APC quiet ? Their billboards are beside the state library. I expect the different Democratic coalitions on the back to South agenda to be bold , to stop playing the ostrich. I expect the honourable men and women of the APC to come out and defend our common heritage, I expect all opposition groups to rise and call a spade by its name. To intimidate the rest of us through stringent advertising rules will not deter us from reaching out through whatever means, to blackmail us through having and not having structures is equally meaningless for we shall not fall for any kind of intimidation. One is tempted to demand and to look for what is contained in the APC manifesto concerning education in cross river state. What is the PDP saying in this regard? Or could it be that, there is no difference, since the governor crossed from their party ,that they are two of a kind?
What then is wrong with the average cross river state citizen, who despite all such brazen lack of will have been very silent ? Some of us on different platforms as administrators would not permit critical interrogation of these ideas and situations. I ask what is party loyalty and what are the limitations and comparisons to the peoples loyalty, which should have the upper hand? I demand for answers from the office of our governor, I demand for answers from the office of the commissioner for education, I demand for answers from the office of the state library board. I demand for a response from my fellow governorship candidates, the voice of Nigerian students should respond, it is their right to be educated.
As a government we will do things differently , I am Effiong Nyong governorship candidate ADC , cross river state.
