YOUTH AND SPORTS FOR PROPER DEVELOPMENT IN CROSS RIVER STATE.
We will do things differently , Emerging from the ruins of the Nigerian civil war, the government of the then South Eastern state led by UJ Esuene ,shut the Calabar stadium and all sporting engagements at the state level were moved to the police sports ground at Otop Abasi street. That field became our Wembley and Olympic stadium. The only other fields we had were school fields in University of Nigeria ,calabar campus, now unical, Hope Waddle ,Saint Patrick's college, WAPI had an undulating field , other grounds were in some other schools in present day Akwa Ibom state. Basketball was played at the Army Barracks ,where the soldiers decided when to allow bloody civilians to have access, Tennis was played at the calabar sports club, which was located at the place where we now have the five finger park near the Governor's lodge .
Sports association offices and camps were scattered all over the city in private residences, the government showed purpose ,vision and direction and the people followed . Then came the opening of the calabar stadium in 1977, as secondary school athletes we were delighted . We saw the legendary Cameroonian footballer Roger Milla play against our Darling Calabar Rovers FC. There was a sporting calendar that synchronized with education, it was so blended, that as sports men and women we traveled across the old South Eastern state and later cross river state without hitches, it did not affect our academic calendar, the system without professors and PhD holders worked. For the national sports festival and other such engagements, school's dormitories were used for camping of athletes and they were decent. 40 years after and everything has become very difficult and incoherent and the answer is simple , the people in government saddled with such responsibilities lack capacity and are grossly incompetent. The chief executives, are also short of knowledge ,capacity and are not humble enough to seek proper advise. We are aware that they cannot give what they don't have. So why are they struggling for power? We shall do things differently ,because we know what to do and how. We shall provide massive sports infrastructural development in cross river state. Three multi sport stadium will be built, one in each senatorial zone , we will encourage local government councils to build mini stadiums in their area, for proper all round development and engagement of our youths. Jobs will be created for ,coaches, physiotherapists, trainers ,maintenance people etc

Our children will be taken away from cultism and other vices , community based football clubs will be encouraged to grow. At the state level we will marry education and sports. Yes we will do things differently. Vote Effiong Nyong for Governor, vote ADC.
